TWO volunteers will be ironing it out to raise much-needed funds for the Scanner Appeal.

Maggie Herbert and Liz Hope of the Kidderminster Hospitals League of Friends have teamed up to help raise cash for the group’s cause.

Mrs Herbert, a trustee, has washed and ironed more than 100 tablecloths, donated to the League of Friends’ shop in the Swan Centre, to be sold at shows in Wyre Forest, while shop manager Mrs Hope will be holding a tombola at the carnivals across the district and Christmas lights events during the year.

They both hope to collect hundreds of pounds for the Shuttle-backed appeal.

The fund aims to raise £125,000 – £65,000 for software for the hospital’s new CT (computed tomography) scanner and £60,000 to pay for the building work carried out to allow the old model to be replaced.

Mrs Herbert said she hoped to sell the tablecloths at the Far Forest Countryside Show in August

“We also want people to come into the shop and buy them, “ she said. “We have all sorts. A lot of them are hand-embroided pretty ones with lace, coloured ones, old ones and new ones.”

Mrs Hope added she wanted to raise about £300 for the appeal.

“We did a tombola in the shop and it seemed to go quite well so I thought perhaps we could do it at the carnivals to raise a bit more money for the appeal,” she said.

“The appeal is great. We need something like that in Kidderminster.”

Peter Picken, of the League of Friends, added: “We are still looking for donations for the shop that can be sold to raise money for the scanner appeal and volunteers to help in the shop.”

People can make a donation to the appeal by contacting the League of Friends on 01562 67653.
