A KEEN swimmer will be going in at the deep end when he attempts to swim more than 60 lengths in an hour in aid of the Scanner Appeal.

Ian Brown, of Stourport, will be making a splash at the town’s sports centre to help raise cash for the Kidderminster Hospitals League of Friends’ cause.

He will be swimming between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Friday, September 13 and will also be collecting money for Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The League of Friends want to raise £65,000 for software for the hospital’s new CT (computed tomography) scanner and £60,000 for building work carried out to allow the old model to be replaced.

Mr Brown said: “I’m looking forward to the swim. I want to raise as much as I can. I think the Scanner Appeal is a good thing for the patients of Kidderminster who need it.”

Peter Picken, of the League of Friends, added: “Ian is obviously a person who is very well intentioned in raising money for charity.

“We are very grateful that he’s chosen the Scanner Appeal.”

Almost £40,000 has already been raised for the Shuttle-backed appeal since it started earlier this year. Mr Picken said they still wanted people to consider the appeal when holding events.

“We could do with some more support to help us reach the target of £125, 000,” he explained.

“I recently bumped into a friend and he said‘I want to give you a tenner for you appeal’. It’s these sort of donations that will help us reach our target. It’s these small donations that help us swell our fund.”

People can make a donation to the Scanner Appeal by calling the League of Friends on 01562 67653.
