BRIDGE fans can play their cards right while taking part in the classic game to boost the coffers of an appeal for a new scanner.

Players are being invited to a charity bridge drive in aid of the Kidderminster Hospitals League of Friends cause.

The event has been organised by Fundraising Friends, a new independent group that has been formed to raise cash for charities.

Organiser Gill Onslow said: “It’s going to be a very good event, a nice, good, fun event with good company.”

The bridge drive will be held on Wednesday, April 30, at Blakedown Village Hall. Doors will open at 10.30am before the games kick off at 11am.

There will be 16 hands of bridge and players will then break for lunch before playing another eight hands.

Prizes will be up for the grabs for the team with the highest score, and there will also be a raffle.

All the cash raised on the day will be donated to the £125,000 appeal to pay for a new scanner at Kidderminster Hospital and building work to replace the old model.

Ms Onslow added: “The scanner appeal is something that I thought was a very good thing to support. I thought the event would be a good way of helping that appeal. There are lots of these bridge drives going on and they’re all done in aid of good causes.

“People will be having a fun day out while supporting the appeal at the same time.”

Peter Picken, of the League of Friends, added: “What could be a better way of enjoying a day than playing 24 hands of bridge in pleasant company and raising money for the scanner.”

Anyone interested in taking part in the event should contact Ms Onslow for tickets on 01562 823915.

People can also make a donation to the scanner appeal by calling the League of Friends on 01562 67653.

Cheques can be made payable to Kidderminster Hospitals League of Friends and sent to Cadisha Brown, The Shuttle, 6 Towers Buildings, Blackwell Street, Kidderminster, DY10 2DY.
