Burlish Park joins Shuttle online
 |
| Screen test: Philippa Harper and teaching assistant Lynda Williams post the first Burlish Park Primary School article on the Shuttle website. |
BURLISH Park Primary is the latest school to join our online School Scene section this week.
Year 5 pupil Philippa Harper, who is 10 next month and is from Stourport, is the first to write for the school's new online section on the newspaper's website.
She has written an article on the Stourport school's recent activities with Fairtrade - it now has Fairtrade School Status - and how the organisation helps farmers in poorer countries get a fair deal for their hard work.
The project at the Stourport school is being steered by teaching assistant Lynda Williams who will be involving as many pupils as possible in the coming months. Articles on a wide range of subjects will be posted on the web each week.
She says: "It is exciting for us to be involved in the Shuttle website and it is a brilliant opportunity for the children.
"Our pupils produce some excellent written work in school and this means they can show it to a much wider audience.
"It will also give them more confidence with their literacy and ICT skills and will greatly add to their overall learning experience."

It is planned for pupils to take their own pictures to support their articles on the web.
The school also has a scheme where pictures are taken of its mascot Burlish Bear wherever it goes outside school, and photographs on its travels will feature in a special gallery in School Scene.
The Burlish Park section is the latest development in the Shuttle's online coverage of schools across the district.
St John's and Franche primaries in Kidderminster and Wolverley Secondary are already online, along with the county's School Sports Partnership. Schools activities covered by the Shuttle's own reporting team can also be found in the School Scene section.
DOES YOUR SCHOOL WANT TO JOIN IN?
Any school in the Wyre Forest area can take part in School Scene. It is a free community project run by the Shuttle and more details can be obtained by calling editor Clive Joyce on 01384 358282.
