THE Bishop of Dudley blessed St John's CE Primary School in Kidderminster at the start of an open day to officially mark the change from first school status.
The school, in Blakebrook, opened as a primary in September as part of the Wyre Forest education shake-up, which saw the closure of the middle and first schools.
The Bishop, Rt Rev David Walker, led the 420 pupils, staff and governors in their worship at Friday's assembly, which culminated in him blessing the school.
The occasion also featured singing from the school choir and some heartfelt and amusing readings from several year six pupils about their reminiscences and thoughts about the school as a first and now as a primary.
Parents were invited to look round the classrooms and see the children at work throughout the rest of the day.
Headteacher, Gordon Wainwright, said: "The whole school community has worked tremendously hard to get us to where we are today.
"We are always very grateful for wonderful support we receive from the church and were particularly delighted to welcome the Bishop of Dudley to bless the new primary school."
