SPRING has definitely sprung at a day nursery where tots have been busily stuffing scarecrows.

Youngsters at Barnabees Nursery, Kidderminster, have been using up straw by the handful and garbing their finished creations in unwanted clothing from parents' and siblings' wardrobes.

A dozen boys and girls rose to the challenge to knock the stuffing out the creative task over the Easter holidays, with a little help at home.

Becky Woodhouse, PTA treasurer, was bowled over by the children's response.

She said: "They have done some really marvellous work. They are all very different.

"We had a competition for the best scarecrow and the winner gets a prize."

Nursery staff, who cater for between 40 and 50 youngsters between two and five, organised the competition, which helps to raise money for Barnabees.

Mrs Woodhouse added: "It helps the children learn about the different seasons and is pure creative fun."
