FROM literary classics to modern masterpieces, pupils have been filling the shoes of their favourite book characters.

Visitors to Cleobury Mortimer Primary School would have left thinking they had stepped into a parallel universe as Gandalf, from Lord of The Rings volumes, rubbed shoulders with Mary Poppins in the classrooms and playgrounds.

The event was in aid of World Book Day, when children from around the world came together to celebrate reading and good books.

Pupils, who got a book voucher each for taking part, did not have all the fun, with staff also getting into the spirit, including headteacher, Mrs Bavita William, dressing up as AA Milne's Winnie the Pooh.
