Woodland wonders: Pictured are Derek Walker, garden owner, with pupils, Shannon Vickery and, Bradley Worton, both 8.
CHILDREN have been swapping classroom walls for a woodland walk thanks to new links with a Wyre Forest cottage garden.
Year three pupils from Burlish Park Primary School have been stepping out on the nature trail at Little Larford, in Astley Burf, owned by Derek and Lin Walker.
The picturesque garden pulls in more than 1,000 visitors each year, opening its doors for the National Garden Scheme charity programme.
Youngsters learned about different plants and trees, bats, birds and all manner of creepy crawlies, including ladybirds and bumblebees, during their visit.
Kerry Bourne, teacher, said: "The children were full of excitement and because they had spent time looking, they learned for themselves."
She added the cottage garden link had bloomed following a school hyacinth competiton judged by Mr Walker earlier this year and predicted more educational visits in the future.
