KS2 Xtreme and KS3 Girls Climbing Festivals

On Friday 11th January over 110 pupils from Bewdley, Far Forest, St Anne's, Blakedown, Foley Park, Franche, St John's, Wolverley, Sutton Park, Hagley, Comberton, Heronswood, Offmore, St George's, Burlish Park and Hartlebury Primary Schools took part in a KS2 Xtreme Festival at the Glades Leisure Centre.

Using the Wyre Forest District Council's Fun Box', pupils were able to roller-blade, skateboard and use their scooters on ramps and skateboarding equipment. The pupils who attended the festival were chosen by their schools as a reward for such things as good behaviour, good attendance, good attitude, etc.

To make the festival even more special for pupils, teachers and volunteers, Jenna Downing, the British roller-blading champion attended for the whole day, providing demonstrations, coaching and inspiring the children as they participated.

Similarly, 130 KS3 girls representing all of the High Schools in the Partnership, attended a climbing festival at the Glades on 21st February. Each school was invited to bring up to 30 girls, who had low self-esteem and/or who didn't participate in traditional' activities at school.

Wolf Mountain, a climbing company from Wolverhampton, set up 2 mobile climbing towers in the main arena at the Glades, which provided the girls with the chance to learn new skills and gain confidence in themselves. Each girl had a minimum of 5/6 attempts at scaling the walls.
