Heads of Department Development Day

On Friday 1st February, Heads of PE in the Wyre Forest School Sports Partnership attended the first ever Heads of Department Development Day.

Despite being in its sixth year as a Partnership, Heads of Department in the Wyre Forest High Schools had not officially' met before to receive CPD training. The Development Day, held at Stourport High School, provided Heads of Department with the opportunity to network, be updated on new National initiatives and share good practice in their subject.

To ensure 100% involvement and attendance in the day, all Heads of Department were covered by the PESSCo in their school. The day began with an overview of the PESSCL strategy at both a national and local level, followed by an in-depth look at the New National Curriculum for KS3/4, delivered by Nick Price.

In the afternoon, Vicci Webley, Wyre Forest's Competition Manager, provided the Heads of Department with an update on the National Competition Framework and the schools league structure in Wyre Forest. This was followed by a sharing of good practice in BTEC and GCSE PE, where each Head of Department put together a short presentation on an aspect of their curriculum they feel is a strength of their department.

The day was a great success and feedback from the Heads of Department was excellent.
