Making the headlines

CUB reporters at a Kidderminster primary school have been making headlines of their own as the first edition of their newspaper hit the playground. The St John's Journal, produced by seven to nine-year-olds at St John's CE Primary, Blakebrook, proved a big hit at a school fair and was sold out within an hour. The budding journalists, dubbed the JJs, put the paper together during an after school club and were involved in all aspects of newspaper production, from news gathering and photography to layout and selling. Headteacher, Gordon Wainwright, said: "The children thoroughly enjoyed producing the paper and were very excited about selling it at the fair. "The idea of the club is that it should be fun, but they are learning a lot of skills at the same time. They should be very proud of what they have achieved and we look forward to the next edition."
