A REVAMPED Stourport supermarket has been given a civic seal of approval following its official reopening.

The Midcounties Co-operative Food store, based in Lombard Street, has undergone a £1.2million transformation.

It was officially reopened on Friday (September 9), by Stourport Mayor Councillor Ken Henderson, and a cheque for £500 to his chosen charity, Midlands Air Ambulance, was presented to him by the store’s manager as a gesture of thanks.

The renovation project took around 17 weeks to complete and has seen the introduction of a host of new facilities in the store.

Bosses said they wanted to create a ‘village under one roof’ and the store now includes a Post Office, Coffee Republic café, and Co-operative Healthcare and Co-operative Travel branches.

In addition to its new look, the store has increased its product range, introducing 400 new products from Worcestershire and its neighbouring counties.

To showcase the local produce, a cooking demonstration was also held in the store on the opening day to give people the chance to sample the goods.

Dean Marchant, Manager of the Midcounties Co-operative Food in Stourport, said: “As we’re based in the heart of the community, we’re committed to investing in Stourport and providing brand new services for our customers to enjoy.

“It was great to welcome along our mayor to celebrate the occasion and give away a luxury food hamper to one lucky customer on the day.

“We were inspired by the ‘village under one roof’ approach, where customers can catch up with friends over coffee, pick up their prescriptions or even book a holiday all while doing their weekly grocery shop.”
