A STOURPORT mother of four took to the skies and raised more than £1,000 for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital who helped her daughter.

Kim Evans, 33, of Swiss Heights, took part in her first skydive in Nottingham on October 1, and raised more than £1,200 for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, who helped her daughter, one-year-old Lola, who was born with a hole in her heart.

Lola was born with a large VSD – a hole in her heart – and coarctation of the aorta. When she was just six-days old she underwent open heart surgery where surgeons reconstructed her heart using a cow’s aorta, closed the hole and cut away the piece of muscle that was blocking her valve.

Miss Evans, who is also mother to Kayla, 13, Brandon, 12, and four-year-old Eva and lives with partner Damien Billingsley, said: “Finally, third time lucky I completed my skydive on October 1. I had two previous attempts the week before but was unable to complete it due to bad weather conditions.

“My instructor Dave was just brilliant. Despite the nerves we had lots of laughs and he made me feel at ease – well as much as possible anyway.

“Before I entered the plane, my daughters had asked that I blow them a kiss and my son requested that I ‘dab’ for him – both tasks were completed as we were free falling at 13,000 feet.”

Miss Evans added: “It was one of the best things I have ever done and I am so happy to have done it for such a worthy cause.

“No amount of thanks will ever be enough for the care Lola received while undergoing open heart surgery last year – they were just incredible.

“However, I am so happy that so far I have raised more than £1,200 for them and still have donations coming in.”

Kim’s JustGiving page is still open for donations, and can be found at justgiving.com/Kim-Evans4Lola.
