STOURPORT Riverside was treated to an extra spring clean recently, thanks to the efforts of one of the town's guide groups.

Around 12 members of 3rd Stourport (Methodist) Guides spent a couple of hours picking up litter - filling around half a dozen black bags with rubbish.

Guide leader Sally Davis organised the litter pick, with support from Wyre Forest District Council who provided tabards, litter pickers and black bin bags.

Sally had heard about the council's efforts to keep the district clean and green, and wanted to get the guide group involved.

She said: "We like to encourage the Guides to do something for their local community when we plan the meetings, and this is what they wanted to do.

"We met up down the Riverside, in Stourport, looked around and got advice from Sarah Davis where to pick.

"The girls looked hard to find any rubbish and were competitive too.

"Thank you to Wyre Forest District Council for letting us to use your pickers and sacks and being there for us."

Sarah Davis, the district council's place coordinator, added: "I would like to thank the young people who took part in the litter pick.

"We are putting a lot of energy into keeping the district clean and looking good, and welcome any opportunity to support local community groups and businesses with initiatives like this."
