A PROUD Stourport Rotarian has received a coveted honour from the organisation for almost four decades of dedicated service.
Mike Davis, who is treasurer of The Rotary Club of Stourport, has been presented with the Paul Harris Award at a fundraising evening held at the Manor Hotel in Hartlebury.
The evening saw them raise more than £400 for charitable causes and saw guest speaker Ben Sidwell, from BBC Midlands Today, join Rotarians including district governor Peter Roberts and his incoming successor Dr Charan Bunger MBE.
Mr Davis joined the club in 1978 and has previously been president of the organisation in 1994 and 1998.
Mr Roberts presented him with his badge and certificate and said: “This award is given to those who make outstanding contributions to the organisation over many years and Mike thoroughly deserves this.”
Mr David said: “I’m very grateful for this award. I certainly wasn’t expecting it – I don’t think anyone who receives it ever does expect it – but I’m delighted to get it and thank everyone very much for their support.”
Attendees also heard how the work of Stourport Rotary and their fellow clubs across the UK have helped almost eradicate polio through fundraising and awareness events.
Mr Roberts said: “The work of Rotary to help eradicate polio is something we should all be proud of. The aim of Rotarians is to make a positive difference to the lives of others and that is what we have done.”
