WORK to transform the site of an historic school in Stourport as part of a multi-million pound retirement living development continues to take shape.

Construction has been moving at a pace at Bromford's new £10.5m School Gardens retirement living scheme where Tan Lane Infants School - and then later Stourport First School - stood for decades from 1897.

The main roof structure of the development is now complete and work to install many of the windows and Juliet balconies is well underway.

The development is expected to be completed in early 2018.

The striking blue entrance facade, which arches around the front of the development, has now been unveiled and once opened will lead through to the communal facilities area.

As part of the renovation of the original school building, work is currently taking place to the roof structure to ensure it meets up-to-date building standards. Once completed, the school building will be converted into three new apartments.

Penny Downing, Bromford's sale and marketing director, said: "Our in-house construction team are doing a great job on site and following the completion of the roof and main facade, we are now beginning to see what the final building will look like in all its glory.

"School Gardens will offer residents a safe, secure and happy home, as well as creating a vibrant and lively community for residents and the wider community to enjoy.

"We are very excited about this phase of the development and are currently in the process of contacting some of our first customers to give them the fantastic news that they have secured their new home here."

School Gardens features 60 high-quality apartments for people aged 55 and over, as well as a cafe bistro, lounge, activity studio, gym and hair and beauty salon.

The range of one or two bedroom apartments will include options for rent or purchase and it is expected residents will be able to move into their new homes in early 2018.

A marketing suite and show apartment is open onsite, and anyone interested is asked to call 01299 393456.
