A SERIES of free family events at Stourport Basins to help youngsters learn about the history and wildlife on their local canal.
The ‘Waterways Wednesdays’ events are being organised by the Canal & River Trust, the charity that cares for the nation’s historic waterways.
Families will be able to learn about ducks, explore historic boat Bramble, build their very own canal and learn about staying safe by the water.
The events are all being run by volunteers from the Trust’s ‘Explorers’ education programme and will give a taster of the activities available to Stourport schools over the course of the academic year.
Sarah Bicknell, education coordinator for the Canal & River Trust said: “The Waterways Wednesdays will be a great chance to banish any school holiday boredom, getting the kids out into the fresh air, learning about their local canals and having some fun along the way.
“Stourport Basins are a really lovely spot, bursting with wildlife and with lots of historical features, so whether it’s building your very own canal or stepping on board a historic boat, these events will give a great opportunity to get out there and explore.”
The events each take place between 10am and 12pm at the Tontine Gardens, Stourport Basins:
*August 9 – Build a Canal Day
*August 16 – Bramble Boat Day
*August 26 – Water Safety Day
