AN optical assistant from a Stourport opticians has raised more than £300 for a children's charity after climbing Snowdon.

Lyndsey Boden, who lives in Kidderminster, completed the eight-mile climb in four and a half hours, along with her 16-year-old daughter, Chloe, to raise funds for Mentor Link.

The duo took the Miners' Path route - which was built to carry copper from the Britannia Copper Works, near Llyn Glaslyn to Pen y Pass, where it was then transported to Caernarfon, before mining on the mountain ended in 1916.

Lyndsey works at Stourport Specsavers, in High Street. The store voted Mentor Link as its store charity to raise funds to support its work over the year.

She said: "The walk was supposed to take six hours, but we were determined to complete the challenge in the best possible time.

"It was a warm day and we suffered from sunburn, but it was worth it to raise money for our store charity and its vital work supporting vulnerable children."

Mentor Link, based in Lombard Street, in Stourport, provides fully-trained volunteer mentors to offer support and guidance to young people facing difficulties in their lives which may include self-harm, bullying, traumatic bereavement and family breakdown.
