A HOMEOWNER has spoken of his shock after a car smashed into his Stourport home, destroying the kitchen and causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

David Perks had been upstairs asleep when the car ploughed into the front wall of his home on the Gilgal, in Stourport, at around 6am on Monday morning (September 4).

Luckily, his partner was in the downstairs back room of the property. Both were uninjured in the accident.

The driver of the car, a 32-year-old man, was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries to his left leg and left hand. Police closed the road for around an hour while emergency services dealt with the incident.

This is the second incident on the road in two months, after a van ploughed into a house on the evening of July 11. Similar incidents also took place in October 2016, and August 2015.

A spokesman for Worcestershire County Council said they would be conducting a road safety review into the location.

Mr Perks said: “The car lost control and came across the footpath, into the house and pushed through the wall into the kitchen. There is a five-foot wide hole in our wall.

“I was in bed asleep and my partner was in the back room getting ready for work - which was quite lucky.

“The kitchen is destroyed, there are bricks all over the place. The cooker went across the room head on into the fridge.

“The front of the house has moved from the impact which could cost £15,000 to £20,000 to fix. It could be thousands for kitchen repairs.”

He added: “It was a bit of coincidence really, I was only with my neighbours the night before talking about the accidents on the Gilgal recently. This is the third house to be damaged by cars on this road.”

Councillor Alan Amos, county council cabinet member for highways, said: “We are conducting a review into road safety in this location, including accident and speed survey data along with a site visit.

“We will continue to monitor and consider what options may be appropriate to improve road safety in this location.”

A West Mercia Police spokesman added: “The incident involved a silver Volkswagen Golf that had collided with a house on the Gilgal.

“Investigations are on-going to establish the circumstances involving the incident, and police are appealing to the public who may have witnessed the incident to please come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 58S of September 4.
