SUSPENSE, murder and paranoia will all play out during an acclaimed production of Dial M For Murder next week.

Lucy Bailey’s production of Frederick Knott’s taught thriller which Alfred Hithcock turned into one of the greatest films ever made is at Birmingham Repertory Theatre from Tuesday, May 13 until Saturday, May 17.

DIAL M FOR MURDER tells the story of the cold and calculating Tony Wendice who is convinced his wife is having an affair.

He sets out to plan and execute the perfect murder until it falters in the most unexpected way and this exciting production reclaims this brilliant and erotic tale of betrayal, passion and ultimately, murder.

Actor, television director and writer Christopher Timothy stars as Inspector Hubbard, and the All Creatures Great and Small actor is joined by Kelly Hotten who steps into Grace Kelly’s shoes as the female lead. Other roles are played by Daniel Betts (Tony Wendice), Philip Cairns (Max Halliday), and Robert Perkins (Captain Lesgate).

Frederick Knott wrote a number of stage plays, of which DIAL M For Murder was the first and probably his most successful. He also wrote the screenplay for the 1954 Hitchcock film which starred Ray Milland, Grace Kelly and John Williams.

Director Lucy Bailey has worked for many of the country’s leading theatre and opera companies including the National Theatre, Glyndebourne Opera and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

Her most recent directing credits include the critically acclaimed productions of Baby Doll and The Lady From The Sea for Birmingham Repertory Theatre and The Winter's Tale for the RSC. The designer is Mike Britton, lighting designer is Chris Davey and sound designer is Mic Pool.
