TWO long standing members of Kidderminster and Stourport AC have had their time and dedication recognised at a top regional awards.

President Derek Aston and senior endurance coach Richard Warder were presented with accolades at a presentation evening organised by regional governing body the West Midlands Council last Wednesday.

Warder, who spends up to 13 hours a week devoting his time to the club, was handed an award for services to volunteering at Tally Ho! in Birmingham.

He plays an active role coaching as well as organising 10-kilometre and the popular 5km road race events.

Meanwhile, Aston was named development coach of the year.

He still spends his time coaching multi-events and is currently concentrating his efforts on the pole vault.

Aston received his award because of his willingness to take on change and his commitment in developing young athletes.

Warder said: “This was a tremendous honour for the club, Derek and I. No-one outside of the sport is really aware of the West Midlands Regional Council but it’s just one step down from the national governing body.”

The pair have now been put forward to the national awards in their categories, where they are up against winners from the other five regions. They will discover if they win at a ceremony in London next month.
