Baylis wins place in British squad

A FIGHTER from Stourport-based UK Kickboxing Club booked his place at the World Championships after impressing in the International Combat Organisation qualifiers.

Jack Baylis will be part of a British team representing the nation in Bulgaria in October after coming through a tough selection process in the under-55 kilogram light contact category.

The 16-year-old edged a tough fight against Wigan’s Sean Taylor. After the first round was tied, the Wyre Forest fighter won the second with a dominant display. He then tasted defeat in his second bout by a split decision, which meant he would have to fight for third and the last qualification place.

But as Baylis and his rival entered the ring, the other fighter decided to pull out, ensuring his place in Bulgaria.

Club-mate Alex Limbrick fought in the under-60kgs weight class was edged out in a split decision despite his opppnent being warned twice for excessive force in the light contact section.
