Bewdley finally get game ...and win

BEWDLEY Town ended their seven-week break from action by seeing off Cradley Town 2-1 in the West Midlands Premier on Tuesday night.

An emphatic finish by Simon Rudd and a brilliant free-kick by Dan Jones ensured the Ribbesford Meadow side got back on track.

They had not played since January 5 because of snow and rain and joint manager Craig Payton was pleased to see their lengthy absence from league action ended.

He said: “It’s great to be playing again.

“It was a good performance against a solid side and just what we needed.

“Thanks to the fans, who came out to watch us. “It was a good crowd considering we hadn’t played for a very long time.”

Victory also catapulted Town five places up the table to 13th and Payton wants Town to be targetting a top ten finish.

“We’ve got to make sure we move up the table,” he added.

“A win last night moved us up quite a bit but we want to get into the top 10.

“We’ve got a lot of games in hand and it looks as though we’ll be playing Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for a spell.”

Bewdley, who saw their game against Bartley Green called off because of a waterlogged pitch, take on fifth from bottom Bromyard at home on Saturday (3pm ko) and then go to 15th-placed Wednesfield on Tuesday night.

Craig Webb and Richard Burgess miss the games because of work commitments.
