Let’s repeat Stratford showing – boss Brown

STOURPORT Swifts manager Rod Brown has challenged his inconsistent team to replicate Tuesday night’s excellent 2-1 win over Midland Alliance leaders Stratford Town for the rest of the season.

Striker Lewis Pountney bagged a brace as Stourport recorded their most impressive win of the campaign.

Victory still leaves runaway leaders Stratford 13 points ahead of Swifts, who are second in the table. But Brown is frustrated that his side do not produce this form throughout the campaign.

He said: “In isolation I am delighted with the performance because it was fantastic.

The back four were magnificent and they stopped three top quality strikers from scoring.

“We had to be a bit more physical but we dominated them in the second half. “What’s frustrating for me is that this is how we should be performing all season.

“The squad is talented but young and the test for me is to make them more consistent.”

Swifts, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Bridgnorth Town on Saturday, face two away trips, going to relegation-battling Studley on Saturday (3pm ko) and Ellesmere Rangers next Wednesday (7.45pm ko).

Tuesday night’s win also strengthened Stourport’s grip on second place, although there are a host of teams below who could overtake them. Loughborough University, Bridgnorth and Gornal Athletic all have games in hand.

Brown added: “There are five or six teams that could finish second so we’ve got to keep picking up results.”

Meanwhile, Brown has drafted in Stourbridge keeper Lewis Solly for a handful of games.

Solly has missed the last few weeks at the Glassboys with a knee injury and he will be looking to regain his sharpness at Swifts.

Rookie midfielder Declan Kirby, 19, has also joined the club.

He is a member of Kidderminster Harriers’ academy, training twice a week with them, and plays for their under-20s side.
