Phoenix increase their lead

LADIES FOOTBALL: Wyre Forest Phoenix extended their lead at the top of the Women’s County League after seeing off closest title rivals Pegasus Ladies Reserves 3-0 on Sunday.

Phoenix now boast an eight-point gap over their fellow challengers from Hereford.

The second-placed team had taken the game to Wyre Forest in a tight first-half but after been denied by stout defending, the hosts took the lead on the stroke of half-time, when Kirsty Jones lobbed the keeper.

Two more goals from Jones in three minutes stunned then Pegasus.

Phoenix are enjoying a brilliant season as they are also in three cup finals and have scored 126 goals and conceded just 16 in all competitions.

This weekend, the ladies take on Droitwich Spa away (2pm ko) at Droitwich Leisure Centre.

Meanwhile, Wyre Forest’s under-10s team lost 3-0 to Inkberrow Eagles, while the under-11s went down 2-0 at Evesham United Swifts.

Goals for Fleur Connolly and Sydney Harris ensured Phoenix’s under-12s edged out Nunnery Wood Vipers 2-1.

Wyre Forest’s under-13s drew 2-2 with Warndon Village Wildcats, with Connor Reeves and Ella Stokes scoring.

The under-16s hammered Kinver Colts 13-0 as Ilidh Shakespeare (3), Hannah-Faye Cresswell, Kathryn Baylis (6), Laura Brennan and Molly Knight (2) hit the back of the net.
