Combes’ efforts are not enough

BEWDLEY lost ground in their push for promotion in Worcestershire League Division Two with a disappointing defeat at the hands of mid-table Wormelow.
Asked to bat, Bewdley never really got to grips with the Wormelow bowlers.
Rob Combes (61) again top-scored, and there were useful contributions from Paul Beard (38), Simon Mauger (29) and Gareth Lewis (30).
The innings meandered along with wickets falling just when batsmen were getting set there was never a possibility of Bewdley posting a competitive total as they closed on 214-6.
In reply, Wormelow were not at any stage under pressure, and lost only three wickets in their unhurried chase.

The seconds battled hard for an entertaining losing draw at Hagley.
A target of 247 too much of a challenge despite another fine knock by Connor Franklin (92).
After overnight rain, Bewdley chose to bowl first and both Tom Weaver and James Marsh ensured the Hagley batsman didn’t have things all their own way with tight opening spells.
The visitors also managed to pick up a couple of wickets but not for the first time they lacked that killer instinct as opposing skipper Andy Shaw hit 113.
He found a couple of allies along the way as Bewdley struggled to gain control.
Only Dave Jones was able to keep things tight on his way to three wicketsas the innings finished on 246-8.
Once again Bewdley struggled to lay a platform but Franklin was the one big plus point as he continued his fine run of form.
His parternship with Johnny Elmer (45no) gave Bewdley brief hope but the visitors always looked 15 or 20 runs off the pace with Bewdley posting 235-8 and a nine-point haul.
