Jack’s the lad in super success
12:00pm Thursday 15th August 2013 in Sportsview
JACK Mills’s first appearance of the season helped Bewdley to a comfortable victory over Rushwick in Worcestershire League Division Two.
Asked to bat, Bewdley’s top order was again not at its best.
At 120-7, Mills joined Robert Crane and they batted very sensibly together adding 59 in 10 overs.
Crane eventually went for 37, but Mills, supported by Ewan Peer and Jack Williams, was able to nurse the total along nicely before taking 18 off the first four balls of the last over.
He was then bowled for 61, leaving Bewdley with a competitive 222.
In reply, Peer (3-35) returned to form for Bewdley with the first three wickets, and Williams chipped in with another.
But the introduction of Mills’ spin hastened the end as he picked up superb figures of 5-13 as Rushwick collapsed from 100-4 to 117 all out.
Third-placed Bewdley visit leaders Harvington Saturday (1.30pm start).
n The seconds got their season back on track with a comfortable seven-wicket win at Rushwick.
Tom Weaver and James Marsh both picked up early wickets as Bewdley quickly took control of the game.
The introduction of Dave Jones (3-21 off 15) predictably saw the run rate plummet as Rushwick struggled to gain any momentum and Bewdley restricted their hosts to 189-9.
Matt Thwaites and Andy Robinson got the reply off to a positive start, but it was Stephen Molyneux (67 off 40 balls) who gave the innings real impetus, and only a dramatic batting collapse upon his dismissal would have seen Bewdley lose this one.
As it was, Andy Halkon (39 not out) and Luke Groves (43no) calmly guided the chase as Bewdley sauntered home with seven wickets in hand.
