Bletcher demands improved performance from Carolians
10:48am Thursday 26th September 2013 in Sportsview
HEAD coach Ian Bletcher has left his Kidderminster Carolians’ players in no doubt they must impove — and fast.
On Saturday they entertain Stafford (3pm) in the RFU Intermiediate Cup with last weekend’s hugely disappointing 42-19 defeat at Nuneaton Old Eds still fresh in everyone at the club’s minds.
It was a performance Bletcher described as ‘unacceptable’ and he is confident that this weekend will be different.
He said: “It was a collective bad day at the office. “Nuneaton are not a bad side but each and every one of our players were five to 10 per cent down on their level on the day and now we have to put it behind us and look forward to Stafford.
“We owe it to the people who came to watch us and the players will be the first to hold their hands up and say the level of performance was unacceptable. I’m sure the next time we play them you will see a different.”
Bletcher said his side had struggled with the interpretation of the referee but refused to use that as an excuse and instead said he was focused on what lies ahead.
He added: “We have Rhys Pritchard and Andy McLellan back, they are both quality backs who any side would be pleased to have, and we will also be giving a debut to Harry Macbeth at full-back. “Harry is one of a new generation of exciting players and we are starting to see players from our strong colts set-up come through.
“Jacob Evetts is available again and will come straight back into the centre and we also have a couple of injuries from Nuneaton and a couple unavailable through work so it’s a chance to blood some new players.
“Stafford are a big, physical side and we hope to have the conditions to move the ball around . We trained hard on defence and tackling on Tuesday and tonight we will look at organisation. it will all be positive stuff now — it’s a new day on Saturday.”
