Fogarty ready to call time on 30-year career
11:45am Thursday 26th September 2013 in Sportsview
FEMALE flexer Nicky Fogarty is looking to end 30 years of competition on a high when she goes for gold at the UK Drug Free Body Building Association’s Open Championships.
The 47-year-old is calling it a day to become a personal trainer and pass on her tried and tested methods for getting fit to the general public.
But Fogarty, who lives in Brockhill, wants to improve on her second place in last year’s Championships, which was won by close friend and rival Carol Streeter.
Some of the country’s besty bodybuilders will be in action at The Assembly in Leamington on Sunday.
Founded in 2011, the UKDFBA is an affiliate of the world Natural Bodybuilding Federation and requires competitors to have been drug free for seven years.
But Fogarty, who is sponsored by 247 Fitness in Kidderminster, has always focused on hard work, dedication and a strict diet to get into shape, rather than relying on any medical short cuts.
The Wyre Forest Gym has provided the facilities, allowing her to train intensely for the competition and given her access to dietary supplements.
She said: “I’ve been competing for 30 years under various bodies but I have always been 100 per cent natural. It takes a tremendous amount of dedication to train for 25 weeks for one tournament.
“I will be up at 5am to do some cardio training before going to work, then to the gym to work out before more cardio and preparing your food for the next day.
“I’m looking forward to helping people get fit and giving them advice on the best way when I become a personal trainer.”
