BEWDLEY Town produced their best performance of the season to knock out favourites Lye Town in the West Midlands Premier Cup on Tuesday night.

Craig Webb’s penalty and Tom Bishop’s strike saw them produce a shock result at Stourbridge Road against a side which has lost only one game in the league all season.

With the final set to be played at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium this year, Town are keen to progress.

Joint manager Craig Payton said: “It was a fantastic result for us.

“We’ve got Bustleholme in the next round and after that we’re very close to the final.”

Victory came hot on heels of an impressive 6-1 win over Ellesmere Rangers.

Russell Godfrey bagged four goals and Jake Golding a brace in their biggest win of the season.

Payton added: “Russell scored three fantastic goals. His first was a tap-in but the rest were impressive.”

Town will be hoping Saturday’s trip to Willenhall Town (3pm ko) goes ahead as they look to move up.
