Bletcher defiant despite defeat
11:00am Friday 14th February 2014 in Sportsview
HEAD coach Ian Bletcher believes Kidderminster Carolians can bounce back from their defeat to Banbury by winning their final six games in the Midlands Division Two West (South).
KCs remain second in the table after their 37-27 loss, their first defeat in six matches.
Despite the setback, KCs are still in with a chance of winning the league as they trail leaders Earlsdon by just a point.
But Bletcher has called on the Marlpool Lane side to end the season unbeaten.
Bletcher said: “The beauty of league rugby is you finish where you deserve.
“We were disappointed by the Banbury defeat.
“We’ve had a heart-to-heart chat with all the players and they agreed there were errors.
“Banbury are a good side but a beatable side and we felt if we had stuck to our game plan we would have beaten them.
“But the players and coaching staff feel that we can win all our final matches and see where we end up at the end of the season.”
KCs will be aiming to bounce back when they go to bottom side Bedworth on Saturday (2.15pm ko).
John Hutchinson is set to replace Elliott Kelsall as hooker in the only change to the team.
Bletcher said: “Elliott has done a very good job for us but unfortunately because he is studying at the University of Wales in the week, he’s not available in training, which means misses out on important team planning.”
KCs were involved in a thrilling clash with their fellow in-form side on Saturday and earned a bonus point.
The hosts had powered into a 12-0 lead thanks tries for Alex Baldwin and Laurence Hughes.
The away team hit back by scoring ten points and then Ed Phillips edged them 15-12 ahead with a try.
George Morgan scored a penalty to restore parity but Banbury nudged into a 27-15 lead.
Scores for Chris Baldwin and Chris Pinner dragged KCs level but a late converted touch down and penalty ended KCs’ hopes of victory.
