PARALYMPIC star Claire Cashmore says she is prepared to experiment in a bid to push herself to the limit.

The 25-year-old has another big year ahead of her as she targets success at the IPC European Swimming Championships in Eindhoven and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

With two years to the Rio Games, she is well aware now us the time to try new training methods.

The Kidderminster swimmer has recently moved home in Manchester and is only seven minutes away from British Swimming’s new elite performance centre.

She said: “With two years to Rio now is the time to really start trying things out,” said the swimmer.

“If you try anything a bit later and it doesn’t work it’s too late to change.

“It’s good to try and freshen things up now and again.

“I’ve just spent a month altitude training in Sierra Nevada and I’m also spending more time in the gym then I have ever done before.

“The new facilities have also put a spring in my step, before you were under ground and it felt like it, but the new centre really is fantastic.”

Cashmore has also enjoying working with Team GB Para-Swimming head coach Rob Greenwood, who took the reins in October after a successful time at British Gas Stirling.

She added: “I’ve been doing this for a long time so I have some ideas about what I would like to do.

“But it’s a dialogue with your coach, working out the best approach with them.”

The six-time Paralympic medal winner enjoyed a successful World Championships last summer, winning double relay gold as well as silver in the 100 metre breaststroke and bronze in the 200m individual medley.

“I was really pleased with the medals at the World Championships but I felt I hadn’t been at my best,” commented Claire.

“I still believe there is more to come.”

The Wyre Forest flyer has an impressive pedigree at the European Championships, winning three gold, four bronze and a silver.

The qualifying tournaments for the Euros and Commonwealth Games are set to be staged in Glasgow in April. She will be racing in the British Gas Swimming Championships and then the British International Para-Swimming meeting in Glasgow.
