STOURPORT secured their highest ever finish with a 4-2 victory over Whitley Bay on Saturday.

The win was enough to cement fourth place in the National Conference North and sealed an impressive campaign.

The high finish is the culmination of many years hard work at the club, with the ladies rising steadily through regional ranks to the national level.

This season, Stourport have been magnificent with nine wins, four draws and four losses.

The win over Whitley was an ill-tempered affair that lacked any real flow.

Stourport started the stronger and Claire Pearson finished superbly when Sarah Cavendish found her unmarked in the area.

Nicola Moss extended the lead from a short corner on 28 minutes and despite being down to ten players at the end of the half still hit the post twice before the break.

Their failure to capitalise looked like coming back to haunt them when Philippa Harmison and Beverley Finlay scored to level the scores within ten minutes of the start of the second half.

But Stourport found their way back into the game and Lora Symonds and Georgina Bathurst made it 4-2 to seal the three points.

Stourport’s last game of the season will be away at Durham University who are in a rich vein of form and occupy third place in the league.

Meanwhile, the fourths suffered a 4-0 loss at Barford Tigers in the Worcestershire Division Two.

Earlier in the season, Stourport had bagged a draw with Tigers but they were too strong this time.

The visitors absorbed repeated attacks but were unable to prevent the home side from scoring who took a 1-0 lead into the half-time break.

With an sizeable squad with fresh legs, Barford continued the attack in the second half and converted three more goals before the final whistle.

Stourport did create some chances after some strong play by defenders Louise Wall, and Stourport’s player of the match Tilda Darling supported by the strength in midfield of Josie Lewis.

Stourport’s fifths were too strong for Worcester as they ran out 4-1 winners.

The home finally broke the deadlock, when Bianca Homer converted a chance following a series of fine passes up the field.

Helene Hannacort bagged a second at the start of the second half.

Worcester pulled one back but Rosie Connolly and Homer added more goals.

In the Worcestershire Division Three, Kidderminster Ladies bounced back from their defeat to Bromsgrove by seeing off Stourport sixths 3-0.

Stourport had been looking to disrupt their promotion prospects, but, this turned out not to be the case as Kidderminster, scoring three goals in the fist half, ran 3-0 victors.

In the second half, both teams had chances but Kidderminster had sealed victory.

Kidderminster remain in second and with just one game to go, they would need leaders Bromsgrove to lose their final game. The Wyre Forest side entertain Redditch on Saturday.
