AMY Smith has set her sights on qualifying for this year’s Commonwealth Games.

The 26-year-old from Kidderminster heads into the British Gas Swimming Championships in Glasgow hoping to go to another major international tournament.

After savouring the atmosphere at the 2012 London Olympics, she would love to swim for England at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

“The atmosphere at London was really special and it would be great to sample another international tournament at home,” said Amy.

“The venue is a little bit smaller than the one in London and there are less tickets but it would be special to do it again.”

However, booking her place in this summer’s sporting extravaganza will be difficult as qualifying standards are once again very tough.

The Wyre Forest Swimming Club member will be looking to top three finishes in the 100m and 50m freestyle.

She is also part of a very strong medley relay quartet.

“Qualification is going to be very tough,” added Amy.

“It looks as though only the fastest times and highest finishes will get you in and of course there is a lot of stiff competition.

“I’ve had an up and down year in terms of fitness but the tapering has helped and I am looking in pretty good shape.”

Her track record at the British Championships is excellent.

She won 50m freestyle silver for the fourth consecutive Championships in 2013 before going on to compete at her third World Championships.
