KIDDERMINSTER Victoria go to fellow strugglers Walsall in a must-win Birmingham and District League Premier clash on Saturday (noon start).

Both teams have endured poor starts with three defeats and one win out of their opening five matches.

With last weekend’s cricket completely decimated by torrential rain, both teams will be eager to get an all important win.

This round of matches marks a return of the traditional 55 over win, lose of draw format, compared to the One Day International style used in the first five and final six matches.

Captain Jonathan Wright said: “Going back to the original points system makes a difference because it means even if you can’t win a match a team can earn points by avoiding defeat.

“Both systems have positives and negatives but we are just concentrating on getting a result. Walsall and ourselves have very similar records and both teams will be keen to get a win.”

The captain and son Henry Wright are available after missing last week’s rained off clash against Kenilworth Wardens. Ryan Derrick is expected to keep his place in the side as KVCC continued without the suspended Gareth Williams.

KVCC had to impose a three-match ban on the seam bowler under league rules after he was involved in an incident in Barnt Green pair Luke Radford and Sam Cheshire.

Green have also moved to punish the players, with Radford banned for three matches and Cheshire, who needlessly got involved, suspended for six games.

Meanwhile, Green are hoping to find a new date for the Graham Williamson Trophy semi-final against Shrewsbury after Sunday’s clash was abandoned.

The game has been moved a number of times and can’t be played this weekend because KVCC play Kenilworth Wardens in the National Knockout Cup on Sunday.

The game could be settled by a coin toss but KVCC and Shrewsbury are keen to play.
