Focus is key for KVCC

KIDDERMINSTER Victoria team manager Ian Kimberlin believes the players need to keep focused as their poor start to the Birmingham League Premier season continued.

The Chester Road side have won just one of their first six games and slumped to a disappointing losing draw against Walsall on Saturday.

To make matters worse, KVCC were edged out by 12 runs on Sunday in the National Knockout Cup by Kenilworth Wardens.

Kimberlin said: “At the minute not enough of the players are really doing enough.

“There needs to be more focus if we are to get back on track.

“Against Walsall we looked comfortable but we had one of our little spells and all of a sudden we were in trouble.

“It has happened too often this season and it’s something that has to stop.”

KVCC entertain reigning championships Shrewsbury at home on Saturday (noon start).

Gareth Williams is available after serving his three match ban but the club are unsure if Matt Pardoe can play as he could be on Worcestershire duty.

Zac Turley should be selected after completing his university exams last week.

“Shrewsbury have had a tough start to the season but we know they are a very good side,” added Kimberlin.

Kidderminster will be aiming to bounce back after their loss to Kenilworth.

They had won the toss and decided to bowl, restricting the home side to 170 through largely tight bowling, although the run rate was allowed to increase during the critically-important last few overs.

Henry Wright and Andrew Kimberlin took three wickets each, the rest shared between Michael Hill, Paul Rowe, Ryan Derrick and captain Jonathan Wright.

In reply, the side lost batsmen at critical moments and fell short of the target.

Hill (43), Derrick (32), Andrew Siwicki (28) and Mark Fisher (23) all made valuable contributions to what was eventually seen to be a lost cause.
