KATIE Lambert from Kidderminster and Stourport AC stormed to gold at the English School Athletic Championships in Bimingham’s Alexander Stadium.

In winning a very tight competition, Lambert, threw a new personal best in the under-17s hammer and broke the championship record with a throw of 56.18 metres.

The youngster has been selected for the England schools team to compete against teams from Ireland, Scotland and Wales in an international match in Cardiff next weekend.

“It was a nerve wracking experience competing with so many good throwers and in front of so many spectators,” said Lambert.

She was one on four successful athletes from the club who qualified for this years championships – Bryony Haines in the 1,500m, 100m sprinter Ed Fussi and Ellie Ravenscroft (300m).

The event for is one of the biggest annual athletics competitions in the world.

It is turning into a very successful year for KSAC with age group teams performing very well in their respective leagues.

The club hope that recent successes and the forthcoming Commonwealth Games will encourage new members of all ages and abilities to have a go.

The Hereford and Worcester Schools’ Team faired well and brought home gold, silver and bronze.

The junior boys 4x100m relay team of Tyriq Bailey-Nicholls, Dan Banks, Harry Liversidge and Oliver Gould took the title in 44.24s.Tyriq Bailey-Nicholls also took 100m bronze in the junior boys section.
