CHAIRMAN Chris Reynolds believes Stourport Swifts are set for a good season in the Midland Football League Premier, if they have all the squad available.

The Walshes Meadow outfit have yet to field a fullstrength squad in pre-season, despite good numbers turning out throughout July.

Swifts start the 2014/15 season at home to Dunkirk on Saturday (3pm kick-off), followed by a trip to AFC Wulfrunians on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).

“I do feel the squad is good enough to have a good season,”

said Reynolds.

“We’ve had Jamie Willetts come back from Tividale, so the only player we’ve really lost is Jordan Jones to Redditch.

“We’ve added Michael McGrath and have Jon Griffin and Lewis Pountney.

“In pre-season we didn’t have everybody available all of the time because of holidays and things like that, but I have no doubt that the squad is a good one.”

Jamie Hyde could be a doubt for Saturday’s clash after suffering a concussion in last Thursday’s friendly defeat to Stourbridge.

He went to hospital as a precaution but was given the allclear shortly after.

A neat strike from triallist Andre Rodrigues was scant consolation for manager Rod Brown as he saw his side beaten 4-1by the Glassboys.

Ben Billingham fired home the opener ten minutes before half-time and he claimed a second six minutes into the second half when he diverted a Sam Rock shot past Brendon Bunn.

Jordan Fitzpatrick and George Washbourne added more goals for Stourbridge.

An under-strength Stourport side were thrashed 6-0 by Halesowen Town on Saturday, who struck three goals in each half at Walshes Meadow.

Chris Lait opened the scoring for the visitors, with Mark Danks doubling the tally after some good work from Tom Tonks.

Former Harriers defender Joe Hull headed in at the far post just before the interval from a set-piece before substitute Danny Bragoli netted an excellent finish soon after the restart.

Veteran striker Iyesden Christie powered home Halesowen’s fifth before Robbie Thompson-Brown wrapped up the scoring.

But Swifts defeated Bewdley 4-1 on Tuesday, with Griffin (2), Pountney and Gary Walker on target.
