Wyre Forest Company of Archers promoted another successful tournament with the Worcester County Championships held at Upper Arley last weekend. Club members winning county titles included Bill Bell who was the top scorer with 1196 points in the Gents compound while Lindsey Brazier scored 1164 to take the Ladies compound title and Penny Neaverson won the Ladies longbow competition with a total of 427 points. These results followed the club's success in a recent tournament at Dunster in Somerset when Bell, Brazier and Scott Potter won the mixed York and Hereford competition. The York for Gents consisted of 6 dozen arrows at 100 yards, 4 dozen arrows at 80 yards and 2 dozen arrows at 60 yards while the Hereford for Ladies consisted of the same number of arrows, but at distances of 80, 60 and 50 yards. In the National Junior Championship held at Lilleshall National Sports Centre 10 years old Lauren Turner in her first year of competition placed 6th in the Metric 5 with 1167 points and 8th in the Bristol 5 with 1112 points. This was followed with 2nd place and 1166 points in a Metric 5 in a tournament at Cheltenham race course which gave her a Junior Master Bowman award. In windy conditions on Sunday she scored 1075 points in a Bristol 5, but was beaten into 2nd place by club mate Freya Palmer who scored 1103 points.
