CLAIRE Cashmore will not be resting on her laurels despite winning two gold medals at the IPC European Swimming Championships in Holland.
The 26-year-old from Kidderminster won her first individual gold medal at the tournament when she tied for first place in the SB8 100m breaststroke with Russia’s World and Paralympic champion Olesya Vladykina in a time of one minute and 20.93 seconds.
Vladykina had been leading at the half way stage but the Wyre Forest swimmer, who has adopted a tough new training regime, produced a storming finish in the Pieter van den Hoogenband Stadium in Eindhoven.
She then bagged a second medal in the medley relay, as she teamed up with Amy Marren, Stephanie Slater and Stephanie Millward and came agonisingly close to a new world record.
Overall, Team GB won 30 gold medals and finished third in the rankings with 73 overall behind Ukraine and Russia.
“I am never satisfied and I always want more,” admitted the Paralympic star.
“It was great to share gold but I would love to have won it outright.
“I have changed how I do everything and it was a big risk so it was good to see it work.
“But there is still a long way to go, I need to work on my first 50 metres and other areas.
“That’s the most exciting thing for me, that there are still areas to improve ahead of the World Championships next year and Rio in 2016.”
She will now take a well-deserved break, before taking part in National Paralympic Day on Saturday, August 30.
