KIDDERMINSTER Carolians warmed up for the new season with a 36-29 win over Bournville on Saturday.

After scheduled opponents Nant Conwy of Swalec Division One North were unable to travel due to unforeseen circumstances, KCs coaching staff wrapped up their pre-season preparations by testing their mettle against higher ranked opposition.

The visitors struck the first blow after only four minutes with an interception try by their outside centre from KCs’ ten-metre line.

Kidderminster quickly responded when Jordan Hatch levelled the scores with a try.

The Birmingham side edged into a 12-5 lead but Dean Hodson and Rob Phillips bagged tries, both converted by Sam Taylor, to establish a 19-12 lead.

Freddie Morgan scored KCs fourth try and Taylor again added the extras.

Bournville hit back and a try made it 26-17 but once again KCs extended their lead when Alex Baldwin set up brother Chris for a touchdown and Hatch scored.

In the closing stages, Bournville scored two more efforts but KCs held on for victory.

KCs have their first competitive game on Saturday at home to Shrewsbury in the North Midlands Shield.
