BEWDLEY’S victory over Rushwick leaves them needing four points from their final match next week at Wormelow to ensure promotion to Division One of the Worcestershire League.

Andy Platt bowled a parsimonious opening spell, this time finishing with 1-19 from his ten overs, and other bowlers were able to take advantage of the opposition’s slow start.

Robert Combes made a welcome return to the wickets column with 2-31, and Jack Mills continued his run of good form with 4-30.

Jack Williams and Rob Crane also bowled well.

In reply, Nick Wilkinson (18) and Michael Stead made 50 for the first wicket, and Matt Cowdery stepped unselfishly into the breach caused by the absence of two senior batsmen and was rewarded with 42 not out.

But the main contribution came from Stead who finished with 90 not out as Bewdley rushed to their target with 27 overs to spare.

They go to Wormelow on Saturday (12.30pm start).
