BEWDLEY Town boss Phil Mullen admitted circumstances conspired against them after losing a bizarre contest with league leaders Sporting Khalsa 6-1.

At one stage, Sporting Khalsa were reduced to nine men – but that didn’t stop them running riot.

Khalsa were already downto ten men when Richard Costello fired Bewdley in front, but the sides finished the first half level pegging after Marvin Nisbett netted.

The match turned on its head after 55 minutes when Bewdley’s Will Ward was sent off along with Khalsa’s Tim Jackson, and Khalsa ran in five more goals.

Mullen admitted: “We frustrated them in the first half but just couldn’t live with them after the second half sendings-off.

“Having a one man advantage seemed to affect us far more than it did them.

“Sporting Khalsa are a very good side and I swear they had a couple of players who could run 100 metres in eight seconds.

“If we’d played for another ten to 15 minutes, I’m sure they would have scored another two or three goals.”

Bewdley go to bottom side Wellington Amateurs on Saturday.
