BEWDLEY Town boss Phil Mullen turned back the clock when he called on goalkeeper Craig Ladett for Tuesday’s trip to Pegasus Juniors.

Mullen found himself without a recognised stopper after Rob Dalloway was handed a one-match ban.

Ladett hadn’t pulled on his goalkeeping gloves for almost five years but Mullen phoned him out of the blue and persuaded him back into action.

Mullen admitted: “I was struggling to get a goalkeeper I could rely upon so I got in touch with Craig. We’ve always had a good rapport. He played for me at Evesham United and he’s also featured for Stourport Swifts and Bewdley in the past.

“I was just grateful to get a goalkeeper at short notice and Craig didn’t let me down, although I think he was struggling a bit the following morning. But I couldn’t fault him for either goal.”

Bewdley came from 2-0 down at half-time to claim a 3-2 win and progress into the next stage of the West Midlands League Cup.

Jason Wellings and Liam Hodges netted along with John Seekings, on his first appearance of the season. Mullen quipped: “We gave them a false sense of security in the first half and then dealt them a hammer blow.”

Swifts host Cradley Town this Saturday at Ribbesford Meadow but will be hoping there will be no more rain after last Saturday’s game with Ellesmere Rangers had to be called off owing to a waterlogged pitch.
