MARTIAL ARTS: Fighters from the Wyre Forest came away with a host of medals from the MMA Battle Arena event in Leicester.

Three members of Kidderminster’s Russell Perks Martial Arts Academy (RPMAA) and local resident Llewellyn Fisher all earned victories.

Brothers Michael and David Khalsa were in good form for RPMAA.

Michael fought a very tough opponent from an ex-UFC fighters gym called Jason Purseman and produced a controlled display.

He gradually ground down his opponent, using double-leg take-downs to good effect, before winning in the first round.

Twin brother David tackled a stand-up fighter in the name of Blaze Strife.

From the sound of the bell in round one it didn’t take long for the Wyre Forest fighter to take the fight to him and put his opponent down with an awesome double-leg take-down.

A series of body shots and an arm triangle submission sealed his victory in 56 seconds.

Mateusz Glinski was the final fighter from RPMAA and had a evenly-balanced bout against Karl Wareham.

Glinski was edged out in the second round.

Perks said: “I am very proud of the lads, they are loyal students and will be future champions in their own right.”

  • Meanwhile Fisher, who is coached by Lee Iannoccaro, made his MMA debut and he defeated Team Kaobon fighter Ash Lun with the use of a submission hold.
