DIRECTOR of rugby Phil Knowles is hoping that Kidderminster Carolians’ first win since the end of October will give them a lift for the second half of the season in the Midlands Divsion Two West (South).

KCs got the better of Veseyans 25-19 away in Birmingham, recording a league double in the process.

Rob Phillips returned from injury with a try while Layton Wilkinson also crashed over.

Youngster Simon Clarke also made a memorable debut when he bagged his first senior try for the club.

Andy McLellan scored three penalties and added a conversion to ensure KCs won a game which was in doubt until the end.

Knowles said: “This was a good result considering we had a lot of changes.

“We had a bad run, but this will give what is a very young team a big boost in confidence ahead of some games in the new year.

“Hopefully, we will also get some of our injured players back as well.”

KCs, who are eighth in the table, now take a break from their league campaign, but face a very tough game when it resumes at home to Bridgnorth on Saturday, January 10.

Kidderminster suffered a 37-0 defeat at their local rivals earlier in the season.

Meanwhile, KCs are hosting a series of inter-club matches at Marlpool Lane home on Boxing Day from 11am.
