BEWDLEY Motorcycle Club’s Boxing Day trial saw a bumper entry of 57 riders.

Held at the former American World War II Hospital site of Brown Westhead Park, Wolverley course plotters Kevin Taylor and Jim Teague laid out a four-lap ten section course for an event that was enjoyed by the officials, riders and the large number of spectators.

Keeping a clean sheet throughout the event, Richard Wells (Beta), claimed top podium spot, but was pushed by four riders.

Alan Nicklin (Greeves) matched Wells for almost all the event, but a lapse of concentration on section seven on the final, put him in a four-way tie for the runner up position. Losing a mark so late gave Nicklin the edge over Bewdley’s Richard Evans (Jotagas).

The 50/50 route saw a win for Danny Pugh, but again it was by a slender margin.

Jim Pickering (Drayton BSA) lost a route win on club chairman Graham Turner’s section four, where the Kidderminster rider lost three marks on his first visit.

But he held on to a two mark advantage over Bewdley Club member and Schoolboy Joel Tett (Beta). Riding his big four stroke Ariel in the same class, Steve Thompson finished in a very creditable sixth position, over the tight turns.

On the B route, ex DMW works rider Mick Parkes (Yamaha) took top spot.

Schoolgirl and British Champion Elizabeth Bett tied with Dave Jones after producing faultless rides.
