BEWDLEY Town battled back twice to force a 2-2 draw with Wednesfield-based Wolves Sporting Community this week in the West Midlands League Premier Division, writes Nick Pullen.

But their midweek match with high flying Ellesmere Rangers was ruled out owing to a frozen Ribbesford Meadow pitch.

Once again Bewdley boss Phil Mullen found his plans disrupted at short notice ahead of the Wolves Sporting game.

He claimed: “On Friday night, I had a full squad to select from. Then by 1pm Saturday, I was down to 12 or 13 players.

“It’s got to the point where I dread the phone ringing on Saturday morning. Attitudes have changed in recent times, so when players are offered work on Saturday, there is little you can do, especially as they are not getting paid by Bewdley Town.

“That said, I thought we were the better side against Wolves Sporting but playing conditions were very difficult.”

Bewdley went a goal down within two minutes when Corey Pearce put Wolves Sporting ahead but James Baldwin levelled just before half time.

Grant Baker put Wolves Sporting back in front after the break before Dan Flowers squared matters with a 70th minute penalty.

Bewdley should back in action this Saturday weather permitting when they entertain Shropshire side Wellington Amateurs, the pair currently level pegging in the league on 23 points.

Mullen quipped: “In a month’s time, we should have the best pitch in the league - because we haven’t played on it for ages!”
