STOURPORT Men were in goal-laden form in Midlands Division One.

The Wyre Forest outfit started a weekend double-header with a 4-4 draw against Bridgnorth before being hammered 5-0 on Sunday by Coventry and North Warwickshire.

On Saturday, Stourport slipped up in a game billed as a potential banana skin.

After falling 1-0 down, Stourport hit back and took a 2-1 lead as David Knott celebrated his appointment as England over-50s captain by bagging a brace.

But Bridgnorth levelled again after some poor Stourport defending.

Not to be denied, the hosts again took the lead through an exceptional solo Chris Hill effort, who lobbed the ‘keeper while at full pace.

Bridgnorth levelled and then took the lead for the second time following poor all-round defensive work by the midfield and the back four.

With 15 minutes left to play, Stourport finally upped their game and showed some signs of what has been their standard this season.

A deserved equaliser from an Andy Cavendish short corner gave them a share of the spoils.

But Stourport hit back 24 hours later as they got the better of Coventry.

From the start Stourport set their stall out and dominated throughout.

Welcoming back Simon Claris after a training day with England Under-18s the day before and Dan Hurley, who had rested a hamstring injury the previous day, the Kingsway club played fast flowing possession hockey.

Controlling the game from back to front and start to finish, the team were a well organised unit.

An Andy Cavendish strike on 23 minutes was nothing less than the travelling Stourport side deserved.

This was followed up with a deft Mark Moss finish on 32 minutes at the end of a run from back to front by the experienced Stourport stalwart that evaded Coventry.

A second Andy Cavendish short corner conversion after the break was added to a by a brilliant Dan Petrie solo strike.

At 4-0 up, Stourport were cruising and rounded off a fantastic all-round performance from the 16-man travelling squad with a second from 17-year-old Petrie.
