There are different types of competition in the sport of rowing.

Time trials occur in the UK during the winter and are referred to as Head races with the fastest crew awarded the title Head of the River.

The day comprised two divisions, racing over a gruelling 6,000m course on a flat meandering River Severn, starting from Grimley and finishing in Diglis Basin in Worcester.

Over 140 crews competed against the clock with the fastest time of the day, with an impressive 18.08, by a City of Bristol eight crew.

Stourport delivered very strong performances against a quality field.

They tasted victory in the senior fours (SEN.4-,), under-17s fours (W.J17A.4x) masters C (MasC.4+) and under-15s fours ( J15A.4x+) categories.

Notably in the under-15s category, the winning time of 20 minutes and 51 seconds was capped off by the first competitive win for the crew’s 12-year-old coxswain, Annabelle Murphy.

Their success follows on from three wins at their own event in January.

Stourport visit Nottingham on their next outing to compete on the 5,700m course, hoping to return as winners of the Masters Head of the Trent.
